My Renault laguna 2001 ran out of diesel and now the STOP light is flashing?

Ok so i was driving the car and for a test I wanted to see how far it would go before it ran out. The book says that you should be able to start the car once you put more fuel in it and not much else. I found the hand pump no problem and pumped the air out and the car started, no problem! BUT, now the stop light is flashing on my dashboard and i'm worried that i might be doing some damage somewhere without knowing. Is there a way to simply reset it as I suspect thats all that needs doing...
