Can I get my retainer refunded? Legal advice?

Am i able to get my retainer refunded? I had my license rvoked and was told i need to go to the state dmv which was 5 hrs away? I paid my lawyer 2k as a retainer. After researching it onmy own because i had gotten no response from my lawyer. I found that all i had to do was go to the local dmv office which i did and got my license reinstated is there any way to get my money back there was no work started on the case i havent even gotten a phone call in 4 months
